Plainfield Public Library, Sisters in Crime meeting, noon, August 28

CHANGE IN VENUE:  This meeting is NOT taking place at the Barnes and Noble in Carmel.  It’s now been moved to the Plainfield Public Library. Here’s the skinny:

My fellow Sisters-in-Crime (I’m a Mister Sister) in the Speed City chapter have invited me to speak at their August meeting about the new book.  I’ll be talking about being published by a library publisher (Five Star) and how different it is to market to libraries, and some of the strategies I’ve tried ,including the exhausting 30-Day Adventure.  You’re invited, even if you’re not a member, to hear the talk. It starts at noon, with a signing following.

Centuries & Sleuths, Forest Park, IL, Saturday, September 11, 11:00 a.m.

Centuries & Sleuths is celebrating being in business 20 years during the month of September, and owner Augie Alesky is having panels of authors come to visit.  I’m fortunate enough to be on a panel with Libby Hellmann, Stephanie Kuehnert, Kent Krueger, and Shane Gericke.  Wow!  If you live in the Chicagoland area, please visit Augie’s wonderful bookstore during September, but especially on the morning of the 11th!

Carmel Clay Library, Carmel, IN, Thursday, September 19, 7 p.m.

I’ll be on a panel about writing with Phil Dunlap (my writing partner, who arranged this), Susan Crandall, and Moni Draper.  We all come at the writing business from different perspectives.  Promises to be a lively discussion.  Please join us!

Hancock Public Library, Greenfield, IN, Saturday, September 18, 10 a.m. to ??

The Hancock Public Library is having an author fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  I’ll be there for awhile, but since I’m going to a wedding in the afternoon back in Plainfield, I’ll be leaving earlier than 3 p.m.  If you’re coming to see me, please don’t wait any later than 1:30 to swing by (but there are many other excellent authors who will be there, including my writing partner Phil Dunlap, so come whenever you can, of course!)

SAMS Library Conference, West Lafayette, IN, Thursday, September 30, 9:30 a.m.

If you’re a librarian at a small or medium library in Indiana, I hope you’re planning to attend the SAMS conference in West Lafayette.  I’ll be talking about the different subgenres within the mystery field and what the fragmented marketplace for mysteries looks like today.  I’ll also discuss where popular authors can be classified and some other authors who can be classified in the same subgenres.

Saturday, October 9, Legends of the Fall, Wisconsin Book Festival, Madison, Wisconsin

I’ll be participating at Legends of the Fall, part of the Wisconsin Book Festival, at the Booked for Murder bookstore.  More details to come, but look for me to be hanging around the bookstore that day.

Magna Cum Murder, Muncie, IN, Friday through Sunday, October 29-31

Magna is a great fan conference, and I highly recommend it.  I’ve been going there for years, and you will quickly be assimilated into the group.  There are no strangers at Magna.  Kathyrn Kennison does a fabulous job running this.  You’ll meet lots of authors and fans, and just have a great time.

Love is Murder, Rosemont, IL, Friday through Sunday, February 4-6, 2011

Love is Murder (On Dark & Stormy Nights) does a great job of being both a fan conference and a writing conference.  For those who want to be writers, Friday is an excellent day of workshops and writing tracks that will help you improve your works in progress.  You’ll also have the opportunity to meet agents and editors.  If you’re a fan, you just enjoy meeting the authors.  Be sure to attend the Mystery Writers of America workshops on Friday and our February meeting on Sunday.

Watch for more entries!
